One of the major concerns when I found out that I was going to be moving to Barcelona for work was working out how I could get everything that I needed to somewhere so far away. The move meant moving my entire family over a period of several years which was a considerable challenge. I literally had to pack up everything in my home: from the absolute basics such as clothes to much more valuable items.
The first question: Who do I know who has moved to Spain? The answer: nobody. Which is why I had to start looking into everything myself.
I researched a few companies online who offered what I was looking for but naturally, there was no way of ensuring a positive experience. Some of them were large companies with very high prices and others were smaller outfits and were less than convincing.
Which is when, right in the middle of my search, I found HolaBank. It is one of the largest banks in the country (an arm of CaixaBank and of huge value to expats). Interestingly enough, it just so happens that among other things they offer their clients special rates (discounts of up to 8%) on international removals to Spain.
For this reason, I took a closer look at Holabank and it turned out to be a bank specifically designed for expats in Spain, and was in all likelihood exactly what I was looking for. Being able to join a bank in Spain which would offer me a range of customer rewards and discounts on products and services which most of us expats need was, quite possibly, the best idea I could have had. What’s more, I could sign up from home, without needing to visit a branch.
So I decided to join and open a bank account in Spain with HolaBank. I could complete all the necessary processes in English with no issues whatsoever and also book the removals service. Not only that but they assisted me with all the legal side of things which I was completely unaware of. International removals are much more complicated than you might think, which is why I’m convinced that I made the right decision: I opted for a company which came with guarantees and meant everything was very straightforward.
